Playing PUBG When the 7.1 Earthquake Hit Southern California

Was in the final 10 team Shootout too...

I definitely stopped & dropped during the recent 7.1 Earthquake in Southern California, only it was my character taking cover while I figure out if I should be concerned that the world around me was shaking!

But at the same, it is hard to resist the opportunity to shoot at your opponent while the earth is rumbling around you. The earthquake added a sense of immersion considering the grenades were exploding in the game. Being a native southern Californian we are used to the ground rumbling from time to time. Which helped me to consider what an amazing occurrence the timing of it all in that synchronistic type fashion.

At about the 11 second mark is when it hit, you can see the subtle wiggle in the mouse. After that came the seemingly aimless crawling while figuring “…should I be in a door seal?”, “…is the power gonna stay on?” AND trying to avoid enemy fire!

Fortunately there was no damage in the living world from the quake, but unfortunately myself & my last teammates perished in the game at the same time. Definitely a unique gaming experience this July 5th!

What Will Help PUBG Weapon Balance?!

PUBG GLITCH UFO ALERT!

PUBG can have it’s funny & frustrating glitches. This one just happens to look like the Black Knight UFO.

Recently on steam, the PUBG development team announced they look to ween the public off of it’s dependence on assault rifles. After playing over 200 rounds myself, it would seem to me the main reason why assault rifles are preferred? Stopping power and accuracy.¬† Especially in the case of the AKM where one or two well placed shots can knock down most players.

That being said, the main problem with the balance of the weapons appears to be the wide angle all of the guns randomly fire in. It’s understandable that while on the quest to make a good game and “realistic battle royale” experience to simulate things like wind-age and elevation. However, the game’s mechanics seem to over compensate for realistic conditions. Which gives rise to meme’s like the one to the left. Maybe it just seems random as the server tries to also calculate a faux breathing rate of the player.

If the PUBG development team simply reduced the size of the cone of fire of each weapon, all of them would seem a viable defense option for the majority of PUBG fire fights. As a player who consistently stays in the top .25% of players on the North American server, I would rather take my chances with my fists, than use a shotgun when parachuting into a new map because of this issue. But it is reassuring to know the dev team is looking for solutions!

Paladins Unbound Goes Bye-Bye

Apparently with the upcoming update to the free to play team based first person shooter Paladins will see yet another reworking of the in-game card system. Just introduced within the past 6 months, the unbound system, is being reset to a new formula.

Somewhat of an unpopular opinion, but the Unbound system was unique in the sense that duplicate cards were a desired outcome as duplicates would increase the level of your card. One of the complaints about the system was the possibility of the balance being thrown because a pay-to-win loop hole by purchasing more radiant chests with real-world money. The unbound cards were only applicable to the unbound mode, while competitive and classic modes had the card leveled, closer to what the system in OB67 will look like and the current competitive/classic modes.

The spirit of the changes in the developers’ words is to make the game feel less like a grind to level up your characters. HiRez also promises quicker rewards for playing than any of the past systems to date. We’ll see how it all plays out soon!
