Recently on steam, the PUBG development team announced they look to ween the public off of it’s dependence on assault rifles. After playing over 200 rounds myself, it would seem to me the main reason why assault rifles are preferred? Stopping power and accuracy. Especially in the case of the AKM where one or two well placed shots can knock down most players.
That being said, the main problem with the balance of the weapons appears to be the wide angle all of the guns randomly fire in. It’s understandable that while on the quest to make a good game and “realistic battle royale” experience to simulate things like wind-age and elevation. However, the game’s mechanics seem to over compensate for realistic conditions. Which gives rise to meme’s like the one to the left. Maybe it just seems random as the server tries to also calculate a faux breathing rate of the player.
If the PUBG development team simply reduced the size of the cone of fire of each weapon, all of them would seem a viable defense option for the majority of PUBG fire fights. As a player who consistently stays in the top .25% of players on the North American server, I would rather take my chances with my fists, than use a shotgun when parachuting into a new map because of this issue. But it is reassuring to know the dev team is looking for solutions!
